March for Women's Lives—
An Inspiration!

On April 25, 2004, more than 1 million people joined the March for Women's Lives in Washington, DC.

The Global Fund for Women was proud to be a co-sponsor of the march and proud to have a delegation that included staff and donors at the march, an amazing, powerful, display of support for women's right to choice.

Women, men and children from all over the United States and the world made clear their passion and commitment to support women's rights to have control over their bodies. Older women, younger women, and people of all races and ethnicities carried signs and wore t-shirts with messages such as "My body is not public property", "This is what a feminist looks like," and "Pregnant women for choice."

Inspiring speakers expressed the crowd's overwhelming view that the Bush Administration and his supporters would not succeed in treating women as second class citizens, whether here or in the United States, by taking away women's rights to health care and choice over when and how they have children. In an amazing and beautiful display of solidarity, the marchers joined arms and chanted, "This is what democracy looks like." The march was a loud and clear statement to the world that the majority of this country is pro-choice, feminist and will vote in the upcoming presidential election.
