Trafficking 

As a grantmaking organization, the Global Fund provides general support grants to women's groups in source and destination countries. We partner with women's groups who provide services to survivors and work to overcome the root causes of trafficking through holistic strategies and solutions. We support international and regional initiatives, and encourage networking among women's groups to prevent trafficking.

Since its founding in 1987, the Global Fund for Women has awarded over $3 million dollars to 300 groups in 71 countries, which work to prevent or stop trafficking and offer services and counseling to survivors on their rights. In 2006-07 alone, the Global Fund provided over $800,000 in  anti-trafficking grants. Human trafficking for sex  and labor exploitation has seen a disturbing acceleration in all regions of the world. A snapshot of some of the most recent grantees who work to end trafficking:

Animus Association Foundation
Sofia, Bulgaria   
    
Founded in 1994, the Animus Association Foundation has emerged as one of the strongest groups in Bulgaria that addresses trafficking as part of its work to end violence against women.

Shakti Samuha
Kathmandu, Nepal  
      
Nepali women and girls trafficked to India to work in brothels established Shakti Samuha (Power Group) in 1996. Unlike  many anti-trafficking groups who typically “rescue” individuals, Shakti Samuha  is completely focused on self-empowerment. It has established the first shelter run by and for trafficking survivors in South Asia.

Medellin, Colombia 
                            
Corporación Espacios de Mujer (Women’s Spaces Corporation) is the leader of the Citizen’s Board Against Trafficking and internationally the group has partnered with the International Organization of Migrations, is an active member of the Global Alliance Against the Trafficking in Women and serve as coordinators of the Latin American and Caribbean Network Against Trafficking.

The Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women
Bangkok, Thailand

The Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women is an international network of over 150 members working to end trafficking, forced labor and human rights abuses in the context of migration.

La Strada
Prague, Czech Republic

La Strada is part of a network of seven independent NGOs throughout Europe that are working together to educate women and girls who may be vulnerable to trafficking.

The Organization of Black Women
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This phenomenal group addresses the root causes of trafficking in Brazil by empowering and educating Afro-Brazilian women and girls in the poorest areas of Rio de Janeiro.

By donating to the Global Fund, you are supporting women's groups working directly on the issue of trafficking, as well as women's groups working to address the factors that contribute to trafficking, such as lack of education, violence against women, poverty and conflict.
