Posted by melissa sandgren
In September 1995, over 45,000 people converged on Beijing for the UN Fourth World Conference on Women to create a platform for action that identified twelve critical areas of concern. In the past 15 years, the platform has served as a policy guide for governments, institutions, private businesses, and UN agencies who are strongly committed to addressing the obstacles that hinder the advancement and empowerment of women.

In the coming months leading up to the 15th anniversary of the historic Beijing conference, women’s organizations, coalitions, and commissions are planning regional activities to discuss achievements and setbacks regarding the twelve critical areas of concern outlined in the Beijing Platform.
