Cyprus - Trafficking in Women for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation |
The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies, and a Global Fund for Woman grantee, is creating a project entitled “Investigating the demand side of trafficking in women for the purpose of sexual exploitation”.
The research will identify the factors linked to the demand for sexual
services, examine the buyers/clients’ perceptions and attitudes towards
women in prostitution, and focus on the general perceptions and
attitudes of Cypriot men and women towards women in prostitution and
possible victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation.
This project is a follow-up to a previous project entitled “Mapping the
Realities of Trafficking in Women for Sexual Exploitation in Cyprus”
that was carried out with the support of the National Machinery for
Women’s Rights. The main aim of the project was to gain and share
awareness, knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon of trafficking
in women in Cyprus for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The project
was carried out using a gender-sensitive, feminist perspective.
