The Council on Foundations honored the Global Fund for Women with two gold and one silver awards for excellence in communications. The Wilmer Shields Rich Awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs.
For Global Fund Board Chair Leila Hessini, the three Wilmer Shields awards are a testament to the important role of communications in building movements. “The awards demonstrate the depth and breadth of the GFW’s reach, our commitment to excellence in responding to the needs of women-led organizations and communicating their stories to a global audience,” said Hessini.
Gold awards went to the website, www.globalfundforwomen.org, and 2010 Annual Report - “Another World is on Her Way” featuring a poster with a map of the world in multiple languages.
Our special Impact report on the Democratic Republic of Congo – “Funding a Women’s Movement Against Sexual Violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo: 2004-2009” was awarded a silver medal in the Special Reports category.
Authored by Global Fund Program Director Muadi Mukenge, Caitlin Stanton and Advisor Aimee Muadi Kady, the Congo report examines the ways women’s groups use Global Fund support to implement community-based strategies to restore peace and create just communities.
The presentation of the awards takes place during the Council on Foundations’ Annual Conference.
