Global Fund for Women Receives Three Wilmer Shields Rich Awards for Excellence in Communications

Recipients will be honored during the Council on Foundations' annual conference in San Diego, California

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Global Fund for Women today announced it received three awards in the 2005 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program. Sponsored by the Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communication efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs across the country.

The Global Fund for Women received a Gold Award in the Newsletters category for Raising Our Voices, a Gold Award in the Web sites category, and a Silver Award in the Special Reports category for "What Girls Need to Grow: Lessons for Social Change Philanthropy." The awards will be presented on April 11, 2005, during the 56th Annual Conference of the Council on Foundations in San Diego.

"We are honored to receive the Council's awards. This distinction demonstrates that the stories of women's achievements and challenges around the world are indeed recognized by the philanthropic community in the US." said Leanne Grossman, director of communications for the Global Fund for Women.

A group of 50 members of the Council assessed nearly 250 entries for this year's awards, reviewing each nominee's annual or biennial reports, newsletters, special reports, public policy campaigns, and Web sites.

About The Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program for Excellence in Communications
The Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program recognizes and encourages excellence in communications by foundations and corporate giving programs. The awards showcase the ways foundations and corporate giving programs use communications strategies and techniques to advance the goals of their grantmaking.

In addition, the awards program seeks to educate the field of organized philanthropy about creative and strategic communications. Through case studies, articles and other outreach efforts, the Council on Foundations and the Communications Network will highlight the award-winning programs, explaining strategies and techniques that can inform the work of other grantmakers.
