GFW Receives a $3 Million Contribution for the "Now or Never" Fund from the Ford Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Global Fund for Women has received the largest single contribution to date - three million dollars - for the Now or Never Fund from the Ford Foundation. The Now or Never Fund allows the Global Fund for Women to swiftly respond to global crises confronting women as they defend reproductive rights, challenge religious extremism, and rebuild lives devastated by war.

As part of the groundbreaking $20 million Investing in Women Campaign, the Now or Never Fund complements the Legacy Fund, a fund for the world's women for decades to come. With only a few months left in the campaign, the Ford Foundation's timely gift brings total contributions and pledges to the Investing in Women Campaign to $17 million.

Susan Beresford, President of the Ford Foundation said, "The Global Fund for Women is a pioneer in its support of local women's rights groups around the world. The Ford Foundation is proud to contribute to this work as part of our longstanding commitment to improve opportunities and advance the human rights of women and girls."

Kavita Ramdas, President and CEO of the Global Fund declared, "After almost three decades of hard work and progress, women around the world now stand at risk of losing critical human rights. The Now or Never Fund represents our effort to infuse a significant amount of capital into preserving and advancing a global consensus on women's health, equality and freedom. We are grateful to the Ford Foundation for partnering with us in this effort and sending a strong message of solidarity and hope to the courageous women whose work we are proud to support."
