We are pleased to announce that in our most recent grant cycle, the Global Fund for Women has awarded $2.6 million to184 women-led organizations in 76 countries. In line with our commitment to strengthening the work of existing grantees, 85 of the 184 grants are renewals.
Highlights include:- Association for the Development of Women’s Initiatives (ADIF) in Maniema Province of Congo (DR) has built a reputation for being willing to take risks. To strengthen peace between communities in the region of Bangengele, a center of rebel conflict in Maniema Province, the group rebuilt a school for 400 students from different communities. Committed to supporting women's recovery from sexual violence, the group provides counseling, and helps survivors to pay for school and learn income-generation skills.
- Shashat, whose name in Arabic means “theater screens,” uses film as a tool for fostering conversations about gender inequity in Palestine. The group’s Annual Women’s Film festival highlights the work of women filmmakers and provides alternative portrayals of women.
- Recovering and Healing from Incest (RAHI) Foundation is the first and only support center in India for women survivors of incest and childhood assault. The group strives to give visibility the issue of incest and child sexual abuse, build resources within the country for effective prevention and intervention, and provide survivors with quality services.
- Center for the Promotion of the Women in the North (CEPROMUN) in Trujillo, Peru works to improve the social and economic condition s of young women. The group recently coordinated an association of single teen mothers who are helping one another to develop greater self-esteem, exercise their rights to reproductive health and organize their communities around social justice issues.
- Women’s Association Vukovar, is a leader in anti-violence and anti-trafficking work in Croatia. The group trains public officials as well as the general public on gender equality, women’s empowerment and how to recognize and end human trafficking.
