Former President Jimmy Carter left the Southern Baptist Convention, a Christian denomination that he had devoted much of his life to serving as a follower, deacon and Bible teacher. This month Carter made his opinion of the denomination public in an op-ed that ran in The Observer U.K. entitled “The Words of God do not Justify Cruelty to Women.” In the op-ed, Carter talks about his faith, women’s rights and other religions that have a history of discriminating against women.
Cool Link: GFW grantee partner, Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) published an op-ed about Carter's piece in The Observer, that was written by one of GFW's founders, Frances Kissling.
