Report Back From The DRC And Uganda: Uninspired Leadership and Undignified Citizenship
In September 2008, Muadi Mukenge, Global Fund's Regional Director of the Africa region, went on an outreach trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Global Fund For Women Awards Over $1.7 Million To 121 Groups In 60 Countries
Last month, Global Fund completed the first of its four docket cycles for the 2008-09 fiscal year. The entire docket of grants totaled $1,737,900 and comprised of 121 grants to groups in 60 countries. The two major themes of the issues addressed by the groups in this docket are peace-building and ending gender-based violence along with expanding women’s civic and political participation.

Feminists in Nicaragua are currently witnessing and experiencing the most repressive government under Daniel Ortega. Our grantees in Nicaragua such as Movimiento Autonomo de Mujeres (MAM) issued a statement against the current Ortega government, especially in the light of the government's violations at the Americas Social Forum held in Guatemala last week. Two Global Fund Grantees Among 2008 Gruber Women’s Prize Recipients
Two of the three recipients of this year’s Gruber Women’s Prize are
members of the Global Fund Network. Yanar Mohammed from Iraq, an
advisor for the MENA region and Nadera Shalhoub Kevorkian from Mada
al-Carmel, a grantee group based in Israel, are among this year’s
recipients. The Women’s Rights Prize ceremony will
take place on November 11 at Columbia Law school, New York. Read More
