| Letter From The President |
UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS MUST APPLY TO ALL WOMEN By Amelia Wu and Leanne Grossman More than 50 years ago, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a charter that protects the freedom and equality of all human beings. Articles 1 and 2 state in part, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. The Global Fund was created to support women's efforts to protect their human rights.
We strongly believe that no one should be coerced or forced into any activity or situation
against their will. In that context, the Global Fund makes grants to groups working to end
the global trafficking of women and girls.
TAPPING INTO THE POWER OF WOMEN WITH
DISABILITIES IN THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S MOVEMENT
Women with disabilities around the world are challenging stereotypes, participating in
community life and politics, and leading organizations for social change. Despite immense
barriers, disabled women are working to become full and equal participants in their
communities. Regrettably, their contributions and their concerns are rarely on the agenda
of the many organizations that make up the global women's movement. Yet women with
disabilities offer a powerful untapped resource to the movement for women's human
rights. |
