15 YEARS – A CELEBRATION
by Mirta Rodriguez Calderon,
Co-Editor of "A Primera Plana," (On the Front Page), a Cuban GFW grantee in the Dominican Republic.
In many countries of the Americas there is a special custom to throw a big party when a girl reaches her fifteenth birthday, to "present" her to society and introduce her to adult life. The Global Fund for Women has reached its fifteenth birthday, and its intense journey of commitment, drive, encouragement and shared dreams with many groups of women throughout the world has little to do with the usual ostentatious "quinceañera" party. Nevertheless, many of us who have received the resources and solidarity of the Global Fund feel like dancing. I want to dress up beautifully for the Global Fund for Women, and sing them songs and recite verses spoken from the heart of hundreds of women from so many places that have found in you an oasis of love, a strong pillar of solidarity and sisterhood.

PARTNERSHIP AWARDS
Continuing the tradition from the Global Fund's 5th and 10th anniversaries, the Global Fund for Women will award 15 partnership grants to women's groups around the world, who will in turn award smaller grants in their communities. Partnership Awards exemplify a central philosophy of the Global Fund: that philanthropy
– the gift of money or resources to help others – provides an opportunity to support women's rights groups that enable women to gain economic independence, increase girls' access to education and stop violence against women. In doing so, the Global Fund shares its belief in the strength of women worldwide to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change.
