2010 is a banner year for the global women's movement! It marks the 30-year anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and 15 years since the historic women's summit in Beijing. To press for a revived women’s human rights agenda, thousands of women from around the world will convene March 1 to 12 at the United Nations in New York for the Commission on the Status of Women.

In celebration of these landmarks and the 101st anniversary of International Women’s Day, the Global Fund for Women is hosting an event, "Women Hold the Solutions," and participating in several upcoming events listed below.

Kicking off with a brief Q&A with New York Times columnist Nick Kristof moderated by Kavita N. Ramdas, the event will feature a rich and lively conversation with three grantee partners:  Pinar Ilkkaraçan from Women for Women's Human Rights in Turkey, Deborah Kaddu-Serwadda from Icon Partners & Associates in Uganda, and Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls from femLINKPACIFIC: Media Initiatives for Women in Fiji.  They will cover a range of critical issues facing women today: gender violence, religious extremism and militarism. A brief update will also be given on women’s collective action for Haiti. Read more
