Prostitution May Be Legalized in Taiwan: Reuters Article Quotes Grantee

DemoSexWorkers.jpgGFW grantee partner the Collective of Sex Workers and Supporters (COSWAS) was quoted in a Reuters article about a proposal to legalize prostitution within a specific zone in Taiwan.  Taiwanese officials say that the proposal is a response to popular demand from the approximately 600,000 sex-workers in the country.

Founded in 1999, COSWAS has been working to protect the rights of Taiwanese sex workers and to press for the permanent legalization and decriminalization of their work, which has been outlawed in the country, since 1997. GFW has awarded this group $67,900 since 1999.
