Global Fund grantee partner Bahrain Women Association for Development (BWS) was featured this week in an article on Inter Press Service News about challenging interpretations of the Quran that reinforce male supremacy. The group has led a series of four workshops meant to correct misunderstandings and spark discussion about the role Quranic interpretations play in justifying gender discrimination.
Since 2001, BWS has been working to raise awareness about the violence, aggression, and social neglect that Bahraini women and children experience. The group aims to empower the country’s women to be leaders. The Global Fund has awarded BWS $79,500 since 2005. Read the article
