Betty founded the Girl Child Network in 1998 as a girls club in local high schools to combat the sexual abuse many girls were enduring from teachers, relatives and officials in Zimbabwe. GCN developed an empowerment model that teaches girls about their rights. It also helps abused girls heal and support each other, turning young women into survivors and leaders within their own communities. With over 700 girls clubs -- 80% of the members live in remote parts of the country-- an estimated 300,000 girls have been reached.
