Betsy Hoody from the ECIS Program Team published an opinion piece in Foreign Policy in Focus that provides a critical gender perspective on the conflict in Kyrgyzstan. The piece calls attention to the well-coordinated efforts of Kyrgyz women's groups in response to the recent escalation in violence, as well as the need to support grassroots organizing as a way to achieving effective solutions.
The article notes that through grassroots organizing, "women are addressing the root causes of the violence: years of unaddressed mistrust and separation among ethnic groups, as well as crumbling social infrastructure and welfare systems." Read the full article
