How the Global Fund is Responding to the Kashmir Earthquake

The Global Fund for Women extends our deepest sympathy and solidarity to the thousands whose lives, security and wellbeing have been severely disrupted by the recent earthquake in South Asia. We are accepting proposals from women's organizations throughout the region that are mobilizing to provide short- and long-term relief.

The Global Fund has awarded a $30,350 emergency grant to the Rural Women Welfare Organization (RWWO), a women's group organizing to end violence against women in Pakistan. RWWO recently celebrated the opening of a women's health clinic and girls' school, supported by the Global Fund, in an area hit by the earthquake.

Women's place at home their undoing in Kashmir quake
Traditional cultural values mandating that women stay inside of the home may have cost thousands of Pakistani women their lives in the earthquake.
