Global Fund for Women on Joseph Biden’s Election as President of the United States

For Immediate Release

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won the U.S. presidential election, according to the Associated Press. Gender justice movements in the U.S. and around the globe made this critical and historic victory possible.

For four years, the Trump administration rolled back reproductive rights and the rights of immigrants, LGBTQI people, people of color, people of faith, and more. The administration also exported its deadly anti-choice policy around the globe via the reinstatement and expansion of the global gag rule. Now comes the hard work, hitting the ground running to pursue urgent priorities for global gender justice.

“Global Fund for Women has been here for more than 30 years, and one thing is clear: We will never back down and we will never stop fighting to ensure that women, girls, and ALL marginalized people around the world have access to both equity and equality,” said Latanya Mapp Frett, President and CEO of Global Fund for Women.

“This election had huge stakes not only for communities across the U.S. but around the world. We look forward to working with the current administration on urgent priorities such as repealing the harmful global gag rule and implementing a feminist foreign policy. Additionally, social movements working for gender justice will continue to transform reality and make the world better. They will do so today, they will do so tomorrow, they will do so every day. And we will be here to support their efforts, as we have for more than 30 years.”
