Rebekka van Roemburg is a social development expert who runs her own international consulting practice. She believes it is high time that women and girls can finally enjoy all their human rights, realize their full potential and co-create a just world. This is why she felt privileged to co-lead the SheDecides support unit in London from May 2017 until March 2019. SheDecides is a global movement that seeks to create a world where every girl and woman can decide about her body, her life, and her future. This movement started as a global fundraising initiative in response to the reinstatement and radical expansion of the Global Gag Rule in early 2017. Throughout her many years in the development field, Rebekka has become convinced of the need to both shift the power to the global south and effectively link local initiatives and struggles with global debates.
Before 2017, Rebekka worked for 16 years with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the areas of gender equality, education, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. She lived and worked in Egypt, Tanzania, and Yemen and as a consultant undertook assignments in Mali, Uganda, Kenya, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. In Tanzania, Rebekka ran her own consulting firm, bringing local and foreign expertise together.
Rebekka has a Masters in Human Geography of Developing Countries. She is part of the global THNK (School for Creative Leadership) community. With other THNKers, she is currently developing a network of “Hungry Changemakers” seeking to co-create a new story for humanity.
