Jurema Werneck

Jurema Werneck [she/her/hers] was born in Morro dos Cabritos, a slum in Rio de Janeiro. She studied medicine and was the only black student in the School of Medicine for many years. Jurema is Director of Amnesty International Brazil and co-founder of Criola which works on black women´s health, economic development, human rights, political action and dialogue, dissemination of information, and publications. She has more than 20 years of experience working in the field of human rights with social and activism movements, on the issues of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, developing education initiatives, campaigns and communications. Jurema is a Board Advisor at Global Fund for Women and United Nations Population Fund.
