Interim Vice President, Programs

Sangeeta Chowdhry [she/her/hers] is the Interim Vice President, Programs at Global Fund for Women.

Sangeeta has worked on issues of economic and environmental justice and gender equity for over 15 years. She currently serves as the Interim Vice President for Programs at Global Fund for Women. In this role, she leads strategic grantmaking and movement strengthening for global programs. She has also led various large multi-year initiatives at the Global Fund for Women such as supporting women’s leadership for economic and political empowerment and ending violence in Asia and the Pacific, strengthening young women’s leadership through feminist mentorship in South Asia and East Africa and ending trafficking in the context of labor and migration in South & Southeast Asia. Sangeeta currently serves on the Boards of Just Associates and Center for Health and Gender Equity. Prior to joining Global Fund for Women, Sangeeta worked on developing innovative solutions to improving access to decent work, safe water and sanitation. At the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation she led a 10-country study focused on bringing sanitation services to underserved urban populations across Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. At Acumen Fund she managed a unique project using human-centered design approach to improve access to safe drinking water across India and Kenya. Sangeeta has engaged in various capacities in support of economic empowerment programs – as Executive Director of League of Artisans, she worked with artisanal communities in India and, prior to that, helped CARE India launch an institution focused on strengthening the livelihoods and microfinance sectors in India. At the American India Foundation, Sangeeta supported grant portfolio assessment and strategy development for the livelihoods program. Sangeeta holds three Masters degrees – the most recent one a Masters in Public Administration (Program in Economic Policy Management) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
