PRIVACY POLICY

Global Fund for Women Inc. (“Global Fund for Women,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a U.S.-based global nonprofit organization. This Global Privacy and Cookie Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process Personal Information in connection with our website, social media pages, email communications, donations, advocacy activities, surveys, research, events, programs, partnerships, and offline interactions. This policy also explains how we use cookies and similar technologies and includes additional jurisdiction-specific information for individuals in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), the United Kingdom (“UK”), and certain U.S. states.

This policy applies to:

  • the website operated by us from which you access this policy, including donation pages and online forms (the “Website”);
  • our social media pages and related interactions;
  • email, newsletter, fundraising, advocacy, event, campaign, and other communications;
  • donor, supporter, advocacy, event, program, survey, research, and partnership activities; and
  • offline interactions you have with us, such as in-person events, meetings, correspondence, or phone communications.

Collectively, we refer to the Website, social media pages, communications, donations, advocacy activities, surveys, research, events, programs, partnerships, and offline interactions as the “Services.” This policy does not apply to job applicants, employees, contractors, volunteers, directors, or officers where the Personal Information we collect about those individuals relates to their current, former, or potential role with us.

1. Personal Information We Collect

“Personal Information” means information that identifies you as an individual or relates to an identifiable individual. Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect identifiers and contact information; donation information; payment information processed by third-party payment services; communications preferences; newsletter signup, event, campaign, and participation information; petition, survey, research, advocacy, program, and partner information; technical and usage information; and social media information.

We ask that you not send us sensitive Personal Information through the Services unless we request it. In some cases, information you choose to provide in connection with petitions, surveys, advocacy activities, research, programs, or partner initiatives may reveal or suggest sensitive information, such as political opinions, beliefs, affiliations, or information about vulnerable communities. Where we intentionally collect sensitive Personal Information, we will provide appropriate notice and process it only where permitted by applicable law, including with consent where required.

The technical and usage information we collect may include IP address, browser type and version, device information, operating system, approximate location, referral links, traffic source, pages viewed, date and time of visits, donation attribution information, and other information about how you interact with the Website.

2. How We Collect Personal Information

We collect Personal Information in several ways, depending on how you interact with us and the Services:

  • Directly from you, such as when you donate, subscribe to communications, complete forms, sign petitions, respond to surveys, participate in campaigns or events, contact us, or otherwise interact with us.
  • Automatically through the Website, including through cookies, analytics tools, pixels, tags, similar technologies, and website attribution tools.
  • From other sources, such as local partners, charitable organizations, donation platforms, payment processors, fundraising partners, fundraising service providers, donor management service providers, survey or research partners, social media platforms, service providers, and other third parties.
  • Through social media, depending on your settings and the policies of the relevant platform.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our service providers use cookies, pixels, tags, analytics tools, and similar technologies on the Website and in some email communications. These technologies help us operate the Website, understand how visitors use the Website, measure traffic and campaign performance, improve our Services, and support our communications, fundraising, advocacy, and outreach efforts.

We use analytics and attribution tools to help us understand Website traffic and usage patterns, including where visitors come from, which pages they view, general location information, referral links, campaign information, and donation activity.

  • Surveys, petitions, advocacy, programs, and research, including administering surveys or petitions, supporting advocacy activities, understanding program and partner ecosystems, relationships, and trends, assessing support needs, and working with partners.
  • Analytics, improvement, security, and compliance, including analyzing referral links, traffic sources, approximate location, page views, and donation attribution information; improving our Website and outreach; aggregating or anonymizing information; conducting audits; preventing fraud; securing systems; complying with law; and protecting our rights, property, safety, operations, and systems.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where required by applicable law, including the GDPR and UK GDPR, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases to process Personal Information: consent, contractual necessity, legal obligations, and legitimate interests. Legitimate interests may include operating and improving our Website and Services, supporting our nonprofit mission, conducting communications and outreach, administering programs and partnerships, conducting analytics, protecting our systems, preventing fraud, and managing our organization, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

We may disclose Personal Information to the following categories of recipients:

  • service providers and professional advisers;
  • donation platforms, payment processors, fundraising service providers, and donor management service providers;
  • local partners, charitable organizations, survey partners, research partners, advocacy partners, and fundraising partners;
  • social media platforms and other third parties where you choose to interact with those services;
  • public authorities, regulators, courts, law enforcement, or other third parties where required or permitted by applicable law; and
  • successor or collaborating organizations in connection with any reorganization, collaboration, merger, assignment, transfer, or other disposition of all or part of our organization, assets, programs, or operations.

We do not publicly disclose donor Personal Information except where you direct us to do so, consent to public recognition, or where disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by applicable law.

7. Third-Party Donation and Payment Services

We may use third-party donation platforms, payment processors, fundraising service providers, and donor management service providers to process donations or payments made through the Services, maintain donor records, issue receipts, prevent fraud, support fundraising and outreach activities, and understand donation sources and campaign effectiveness. If you make a donation or payment through the Services, payment information may be collected and processed by the relevant third-party donation platform or payment service and will be subject to that third party’s privacy policy. We may receive and process related donation information, such as your contact details, donation amount, date, donation status, donation campaign or source, referral link, traffic source, and approximate location, where available.

8. Donor Privacy

We use donor Personal Information to process donations, issue receipts, maintain donor records, communicate with donors, support fundraising and outreach, comply with legal and tax obligations, and administer our donor relationships. We do not rent, sell, or trade donor Personal Information. We may disclose donor Personal Information to service providers, donation platforms, payment processors, fundraising service providers, donor management service providers, professional advisers, and other recipients described in this policy where needed for the purposes described above. If you choose to make a donation in honor of another person, request public recognition, participate in a public donor listing, or otherwise direct us to share donor-related information, we may disclose information consistent with your request or consent.

9. Third-Party Services and Social Media

This policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information, security, or other practices of any third parties, including third-party websites, services, payment processors, donation platforms, social media platforms, app providers, or other organizations to which the Services link or through which you interact with us. Your interactions with those third-party services are governed by the third parties’ own privacy policies and terms.

10. International Transfers

Global Fund for Women is based in the United States. Your Personal Information may be stored and processed in the United States and in other countries where we, our service providers, partners, or other recipients described in this policy operate. These countries may have data protection rules that are different from those of your country. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of Personal Information, such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

11. Retention

We retain Personal Information for as long as needed or permitted for the purposes for which it was collected, including to provide the Services, administer donations and donor relationships, comply with legal, tax, accounting, and reporting obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, and protect our rights. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information, the purpose of processing, and applicable legal requirements.

We seek to use reasonable organizational, technical, and administrative measures to protect Personal Information within our organization. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please notify us using the contact information below.

13. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You may opt out of receiving fundraising, advocacy, event, newsletter, or other non-administrative communications from us by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us at [email protected]. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your Personal Information, to object to or opt out of certain processing, or to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a privacy request. Where permitted by applicable law, you may also be able to submit a request through an authorized agent. We will respond to your request consistent with applicable law.

14. Additional Information for Individuals in the EEA and UK

If you are located in the EEA or UK, Global Fund for Women Inc. is the controller of Personal Information processed under this policy, unless we explain otherwise in a specific context. Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to request access to your Personal Information; request correction of inaccurate or incomplete Personal Information; request deletion; request restriction of processing; object to processing based on legitimate interests; object to direct marketing; request portability; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Where we process special category data under the GDPR or UK GDPR, we do so only where we have an appropriate legal basis and Article 9 condition, such as explicit consent, substantial public interest where applicable, or another lawful basis permitted by applicable law. 15. Additional Information for Certain U.S. Residents

Depending on your state of residence and whether a particular law applies to Global Fund for Women, you may have rights such as the right to know or access Personal Information we process about you; correct inaccurate Personal Information; request deletion; obtain a copy of Personal Information in a portable format; opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, or sharing of Personal Information, where applicable; limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive Personal Information, where applicable; and appeal a decision regarding your privacy request, where applicable.

Global Fund for Women does not knowingly sell Personal Information for money. Depending on the technologies used on the Website and the law that applies to us, some disclosures involving analytics, pixels, cookies, social media tools, advertising, or campaign attribution technologies may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under certain U.S. state privacy laws. We will assess and respond to applicable U.S. state privacy requests consistent with applicable law. Because nonprofit organizations are exempt from some, but not all, U.S. state privacy laws, the rights available to you may vary depending on your state and the scope of the applicable law.

17. Use of Services by Minors

The Services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from individuals under the age of sixteen (16) without appropriate consent where required by applicable law. If we learn that we have collected Personal Information from an individual under 16 without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it consistent with applicable law.

18. Updates to this Policy

The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised policy on the Services, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
