Regina Tamés

Regina Tamés (she/her/hers) is the Vice President of Programs and Co-lead of Global Partnerships at Global Fund for Women.

Regina is a Mexican lawyer with over 25 years of experience in women’s rights advocacy and litigation, and more than a decade of experience in management, fundraising, and leadership within feminist organizations. Most recently, she worked at Human Rights Watch, where she served as the Deputy Director for the Women’s Rights Division, leading a diverse global team. There, she developed a strategic plan that prioritized regions, themes, and strategies aimed at advancing women’s rights worldwide, in partnership with local organizations, fostering horizontal relationships, and intentionally addressing unequal power dynamics. Regina co-led various projects with researchers on preventing sexual and gender-based violence, as well as promoting reproductive and economic justice in different regions of the world.

Regina has also worked as a Program Officer for Latin America at Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, Planned Parenthood Global, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, providing technical assistance to organizations supporting historically discriminated communities. She served as the Executive Director of the Information Group on Reproductive Choice (GIRE), one of the leading reproductive justice organizations in the region, from 2011 to 2020. Under her leadership, GIRE expanded its scope of work, increased its staff, and diversified and grew its budget by 20%. She has actively participated in several governing bodies of local organizations and has received awards for her outstanding work as a women’s rights activist.
