Staff of Kramer Levin Embrace “Women Helping Women”

Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP is a full-service law firm headquartered in New York. The mission of the firm’s Women’s Initiative Committee is to create an environment where its women can flourish and become leaders in the legal community.

In 2014, the Committee explored ways to broaden the mission beyond Kramer Levin. The concept of “Women Helping Women”, which has always been the Committee’s inspiration, led Kramer Levin to partner with Global Fund for Women. Kramer Levin chose Global Fund for Women specifically because of our commitment to support the education of girls and women.

Kramer Levin’s Women’s Initiative Committee organized a series of awareness and fundraising programs about Global Fund for Women targeting the law firm’s attorneys and staff. On September 29th 2014, the Committee hosted a discussion with Global Fund for Women CEO, Musimbi Kanyoro. The event, entitled, “Transformation Through Education: Changing the World by Empowering Girls,” addressed an audience of business and legal professionals from the nation’s leading corporate and financial services companies, as well as Kramer Levin’s lawyers. It was a wonderful opportunity for individuals within the firm to become inspired and share a common goal with colleagues and friends.

In addition to fundraising efforts with their employees, the firm’s management generously agreed to match all employee contributions towards this cause up to a total of $20,000. A resounding success, Kramer Levin employees exceeded their goal and have raised over $20,000!

Levi Strauss & Co. Employees Double Their Impact

When Global Fund for Women received a $250 gift from Levi Strauss employees through the company’s matching gift program in 1995, a meaningful and long-lasting partnership was born. Seventeen years and over one million dollars later, we have accomplished a lot together.

Because of our shared commitment to worker rights, women in northern Nicaragua are forging new careers in jobs historically reserved for men. These women are being trained in woodworking, welding, plumbing, and electrical work. Hundreds are learning about small business administration and in the process, changing the way their communities think about women in the workplace. And because of labor rights education supported by our partnership, 40,000 women garment workers in Sri Lanka stood up to factory management in Katunayake Free Trade Zone to protest a wage-cutting pension bill.

These wins could not have happened without supporters like the employees at Levi Strauss & Co., whose donations are doubled through the company’s matching gift program.

In honor of its 60th anniversary, the Levi Strauss Foundation invited the company’s employees to vote on how to divide $60,000 among their community partners. Global Fund for Women was the favorite and received $25,000. Thank you, Levi Strauss employees!

Company Match Makes Giving Easy for Robin Fitzgerald

Robin Fitzgerald, Regulatory Affairs Leader at GE Healthcare, recently selected Global Fund for Women as the organization that she supports through her company’s employee giving program. Read about how Robin finds the matching gifts program easy and valuable as a donor:

How did you decide to support the Global Fund for Women?

GE has an annual employee giving campaign called “iCare.” They said that if you don’t have a favorite charity, then here’s a list of causes that you can donate to, such as the United Way and other prominent charities. I’ve heard about you because of the work that my friend Melissa is doing. I’m on her Facebook group so I knew that she works with and supports the Global Fund for Women. I decided to look and see if this was one of the charities that fit the criteria support. And there it was—a link where you could pick your own organization to support.

What’s the process of giving?

It’s very easy. The donation is deducted from your paycheck. You never see it, but you’re still giving every other week, throughout the year. And GE Healthcare matches a percentage of what I give. So it works out very well.
