Our Approach and Impact

Funding that trusts feminist organizations to lead

Real progress toward gender justice starts with grassroots feminist organizations. Rooted in their communities, they understand local needs and hold the knowledge, trust, and lived experience to create lasting change.

That's why we provide flexible, long-term support, so they can set their own priorities and decide what's next.

Who We Fund

We fund grassroots feminist organizations around the world, particularly those working in countries where organizing is dangerous or restricted, and flexible support is harder to access.

They are the first to recognize emerging threats and solutions, and the first to respond when a crisis hits. But too often, they're the last to receive funding.

We're working to change that.

What We Fund

Women, girls, and gender-nonconforming people are responding to overlapping challenges every day. Our funding supports grassroots feminist organizations working across four interconnected areas of gender justice in 180 countries. Lasting change requires progress across all of them.

Feminist Crisis
Response

Long-term funding that reaches communities directly, supporting them to prepare, respond, rebuild, and tackle the root causes of crises.

Only 0.4%

of international aid to countries in conflict reaches women-led organizations directly.

Freedom
from Violence

From femicide to online abuse to violence in conflict zones, our partners work to prevent and address violence and challenge the systems that permit it.

Sexual &
Reproductive Justice

Our partners advance bodily autonomy and self-determination. From abortion access to contraception to maternal and birth justice, they fight the laws, systems, and norms that restrict them.

40%

of women face oppressive abortion laws.

Climate
Justice

From sustainable farming to protecting water sources, our partners are strengthening climate solutions led by the communities most affected.

80%

of people displaced by climate change are women and girls.

How We Fund

We give flexible, multi-year funding with streamlined reporting so feminist leaders can focus on their work.

With the support of our donors, we move resources to where they are needed most and can have the greatest impact. We go beyond the grant, offering responsive support, learning opportunities, and global connections that sustain feminist organizations and movements. Here's how:

Flexible Funding

Flexible
Funding

Multi-year, trust-based funding that gives partners the flexibility to respond to their communities' evolving needs.

Resilience

Organizational Resilience

Additional funding that helps organizations grow stronger - covering staff, systems, infrastructure, and organizational wellbeing.

Learning

Learning and Connection

Grantee-led convenings-where partners connect, share strategies, and learn from one another-plus travel and advocacy opportunities that strengthen relationships and collective power.

Responsive Support

Responsive Support

Flexible grantmaking process that adapts to changing contexts, so partners can access resources quickly when they need them most.

Finding the Organizations that Traditional Philanthropy Often Overlooks

Grassroots feminist organizations often work in places where laws shift quickly and civic space is narrowing. That's why we don't rely on a single way of identifying partners. Instead, we combine multiple approaches to find the organization best placed to respond and move funding where it's needed most.

Finding 1

Participatory

Grassroots leaders help decide who gets funded, so the people closest to the issues lead the way.

Finding 2

Peer and Advisor-Informed

Our global network of trusted advisors and peers helps identify the issues, opportunities, and groups we should support directly.

Finding 3

Proactive

We combine publicly available data and insights through our Gender Justice Data Hub to identify emerging mobilization and the grassroots organizations leading it, allowing us to proactively reach out when timely funding is needed most.
