Ouedraogo Dorcas is a painter whose work is deeply inspired by the cultural richness of her country. She paints on various surfaces, ranging from canvases to pottery, bags, and everyday objects, adding a unique cultural and artistic touch. Engaged in her community, she organizes painting workshops with children in her locality and community painting days, believing that art is a universal language that educates, unites, and inspires.

What role do you think art can play in social change?
À travers mes œuvres, j’exprime des réalités souvent ignorées, je mets en lumière les luttes des femmes et des jeunes, et je crée un espace de réflexion et d’espoir. L’art ne se limite pas à l’esthétique ; il est un outil de résistance et un moteur de transformation sociale.
Through my work, I express realities that are often dismissed, highlight the struggles of women and young people, and create a space for reflection and hope. Art is not limited to aesthetics; it is a tool of resistance and a force for social transformation
How would you describe your artistic practice as it relates to supporting social movements?
À travers mon art, j’encourage l’expression et la sensibilisation aux enjeux sociaux. En organisant des concours de dessin pour les jeunes artistes et des ateliers de peinture avec les enfants de ma localité, je leur offre un espace pour s’exprimer et prendre confiance en leur potentiel. L’art devient ainsi un moyen de valoriser leurs voix et de renforcer leur place dans la société. Mon travail met aussi en avant la place des femmes dans l’art et l’entrepreneuriat, inspirant ainsi une nouvelle génération de créateurs engagés.
Through my art, I encourage expression and raise awareness of social issues. By organizing drawing competitions for young artists and painting workshops with children in my community, I offer them a space to express themselves and build confidence in their potential. Art thus becomes a means of valuing their voices and reinforcing their place in society. My work also highlights the role of women in art and entrepreneurship, therefore inspiring a new generation of engaged creators.
What do you hope to achieve through this award?
“Ce prix est une opportunité pour élargir mon impact et renforcer mon engagement envers l’art et la communauté. J’espère organiser davantage d’ateliers de peinture pour apprendre aux enfants les bases du dessin et leur offrir un accès au matériel artistique. Pour moi, l’art est un moyen de s’exprimer et de se battre. J’utilise l’argent gagné pour acheter du matériel artistique, améliorer mes compétences et organiser des ateliers où des femmes comme moi peuvent venir peindre ensemble et s’exprimer.”
This award is an opportunity to expand my impact and strengthen my commitment to art and the community. I hope to organize more painting workshops to teach children the basics of drawing and offer them access to art materials. For me, art is a way to express oneself and to resist. I use the money I earn to buy art supplies, improve my skills, and organize workshops where women like me can come together to paint and express themselves.
