Learning from our convening with women’s groups in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

In December 2015, Global Fund for Women brought together 84 of the most prominent women’s and LGBTQI rights advocates from 16 countries across the Europe and Central Asia region. The three-day meeting (which was held in Batumi, Georgia) was co-hosted by Global Fund for Women, Kvinna till Kvinna and Women’s Fund in Georgia. The convening happened at a critical time to enable women and trans* persons in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to resist the growing backlash against various social justice movements in the region. The meeting provided a unique space for participants – our grantee partners, advisors, and peer funders – to reflect on the growing challenges and exchange strategies for resistance. This Learning Memo summarizes key findings from the convening as well as recommendations for the next steps. Read the learning memo (PDF).
