“Every Vote Counts”: Global Fund for Women on Awaiting the Results of the U.S. Presidential Election

For Immediate Release: Nov. 4, 2020

The U.S. presidential election results have huge stakes for women, immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQI+ community, people of faith, and more in the U.S. and globally. For democracy to work for all of us, every voter must have their voice heard and their vote counted. While we await the U.S. election results, we appreciate the election officials delivering our democracy, and recognize how critical this moment is for women, girls, and all historically marginalized people. In moments of uncertainty, we are in this together.

“Global Fund for Women has been here for more than 30 years, and one thing is clear: We will never back down and we will never stop fighting to ensure that women, girls, and ALL marginalized people around the world have access to both equity and equality,” said Latanya Mapp Frett, President and CEO of Global Fund for Women.

“Every vote must be counted. We are more committed than ever to resisting further rollbacks to rights. We further affirm the vital importance of social movements working for gender justice. Research – and history – have proven that they have the power to transform reality and make the world better. They will do so today, they will do so tomorrow, they will do so every day. And we will be here to support their efforts, as we have for more than 30 years.”

The hard work is only just beginning

We are in this fight together. Help us hit the ground running to pursue urgent priorities for gender justice movements around the globe!
