Sonya Alvarez

Director, Major Gifts and Sustaining Movements Co-Lead

Sonya Alvarez [she/her/hers] is the Director, Major Gifts and Sustaining Movements Co-Lead at Global Fund for Women. 

Sonya has over 20 years of non-profit development experience with organizations working across the philanthropic spectrum – from health care to media and the arts. For the past 16 years, she has found personal fulfillment and a professional home within organizations focused on human rights, gender, racial and social justice. As the Director of Individual Major Gifts, Sonya supports Global Fund for Women in identifying and bolstering financial resources for gender justice movements while simultaneously supporting funders in identifying and achieving their philanthropic goals.  

In her personal time, Sonya volunteers as an escort with Richmond Clinic Defense and enjoys practicing mindfulness, pottery, and being in nature.
